About

I’m a technologist who has lived in Canberra for a long time.

I have a few hobbies but none that I devote a great deal of time to. They include but are not limited to:

  • Classical guitar
  • Spending time on the internet (tweeting, tumbling, googling etc)
  • Following sports (Canberra Raiders, Formula One, and other team sports)
  • Traditional shaving (you know: badger hair brush, do it yourself lather, double edge razor)
  • Riding my mountain bike (this doesn’t occur often)
  • Trying to learn IT stuff (like migrating a blog using phpMyAdmin)
  • Making, drinking and enjoying espresso coffee (serious topic)
  • Photography (playing around on a flim SLR and my trusty compact)
  • Sketching/drawing (need help here)
  • Helping people (where possible)
  • Becoming a proficient user of Free and Open Source Software services and applications

Profession
I mentioned before that I’m a technologist. Why? Well, this year (2011) I graduated from the University of Canberra with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics. I’ve posted the units I studied (just in case you’d be interested) in the University section of this site. My career aspiration is to become a business analyst and to (hopefully) assist organisations use technology in much more effective ways.

Purpose or Mission of this Blog
I think it’s important for technologists to have an online presence. While people are quite right to be cautious of their privacy, one should also come out of the woods and share knowledge publicly. I blog for two main reasons. One is to keep a log of my own personal development. It’s great to look back on thoughts and expressions from previous years and reflect on how time changes you. The other reason is to share whatever I learn along the way with others. I mentioned above that I like Open Source Software. This is why I’m using WordPress for my blog and why my main computer is running Kubuntu Linux. To be true to the open source movement, I will share my knowledge (as humble as it may be) with others.

Licensing
I’ve licensed my content under the most open of Creative Commons licenses. You are free to use my work as you please. I only ask that you don’t take my writings out of context and that you acknowledge your sources correctly. I recommend that other bloggers license their work in a similar manner where possible.

Where else do I live
Apart from this presence I have other online profiles.
